Montgomery/Spectre

July 9, 2016

After leaving Atlanta an hour behind schedule we headed to New Orleans, but had to pass through Montgomery first. While on the way to Montgomery Khyber looked up some of the things to do in the area and we both quickly decided to visit the abandoned town of Spectre. For those who don’t know, Spectre is the idealized town from the movie “Big Fish”, which was directed by Tim Burton. Rather than simply use an existing town, Tim Burton decided to build a fake town on a small island outside of Montgomery, and while many of the styrofoam sets from Spectre are missing now, one can still see the iconic crossed trees from the movie, as well as several shells of buildings that formed the Main Street in the town. It ended up being one of the coolest stops so far and we took tons of pictures, and had a lovely encounter with a small herd of wild goats that call Spectre their home.
