Savannah

July 6, 2016

Arriving at our motel in Savannah was a fun experience. It cost 36 dollars a night without tax, and you could definitely tell the price from the way it looked. While searching for parking we drove around the building and got stares from everyone who was sitting outside their respective rooms. Inside the room wasn’t much better. It smelled pretty bad, and the bathroom wasn’t the cleanest. Eager to spend as little time as possible in the room we decided to head into Savannah to find a cafe and grab some coffee, even though it was 9:00 at night. We quickly found a Starbucks and after grabbing coffee and walking around a bit at night we returned to the Motel 6 for the night.

The next day we decided to check out early, and attempt to go see the sunrise over the water. Unfortunately, due to poor planning we missed the sunrise at Tybee Island Pier. Heading into the town early allowed us to walk around without many other people out which was very nice, and we ended up at a nice cafe called Goose Feathers Cafe & Bakery, where Khyber had a proper bagel for the first time in ages.

After walking around Savannah for several hours we headed to the car, and onto the next city!

On the way to Atlanta

Atlanta

July 7, 2016

Fortunately for us, we both know a guy named Max from Atlanta who graciously offered us a place to stay for a couple days, so we headed there, arriving at around 3 in the afternoon. After catching up, hanging out, and a quick dip in the pool, we headed into the city to see “The Shining” at the historic Fox Theatre. This theatre was incredible, with an old middle eastern vibe to it, and a ceiling that had projections of clouds on it, the whole thing was super cool. It was also our first time seeing “The Shining”, so that was very fun, too! After the movie we grabbed Krispy Kreme, and headed back to Max’s house to relax for a bit before heading to sleep.

Following a lovely breakfast courtesy of Max’s mom, the three of us headed into Atlanta to see the city. Our first stop was the CNN center, where we walked around the bottom floor, but didn’t go on the actual tour. Afterwards we walked through Olympic Centennial Park for a bit, and then headed to a TacoMac for authentic Atlanta-Mexican food, which ended up being delicious. Our big stop of the day however was the World of Coke factory, where we saw the Secret Vault, explored the World of Coke, and grabbed a picture with the Polar Bear. While walking the through the park on the way back to the car, Khyber kept trying to veer off and capture some Pokemon, much to the annoyance of his company. After getting back to the car Max, Robert and Khyber headed to Little 5, which is a sort of hipster-grunge area of Atlanta with some really cool shops and thrift stores. None of us ended up buying anything however, and we finally returned to Max’s house empty handed. The rest of the night was spent hanging out and catching Pokemon around Max’s neighborhood.

After packing up, and a quick bite to eat, we left Atlanta to continue on the road.
